Wake Tech – Tower Tech Program & Wake Works Apprenticeship Program

  • A brief presentation of the Tower Tech program, the various hazards workers in the Tower industry face, and how students are trained to deal with those hazards.
  • Information on our National Center for Construction Education and Research trades programs and Wake Tech is building safety training into those classes.

Guest Speakers:

Michael Moore is a graduate of Western Carolina with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health.  After graduation, Michael worked for the State of North Carolina for 8 years in the Health Hazard Control Branch as the Industrial Hygiene Inspector Supervisor in charge of enforcing Asbestos and Lead Paint regulations across the state.  Upon leaving State Government, Michael worked for ten years as the owner and operator of a remodeling company.  He then joined Wake Technical Community College in 2011 as the Director of Apprenticeship Training and is currently working with the Amazon Mechatronics Registered Apprenticeship program and in trades education in the areas of carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and sheet metal.  Michael has worked to build a culture of safety in the Wake Tech Apprenticeship program by building safety training into all his courses.

John Wojcik is the Sr. Director of the WakeWorks Apprenticeship Program at Wake Tech Community College.  John joined Wake Tech Community College in February of 2020.  John has over 40 years of Supply Chain and Operations Management in various regulated industries where safety went beyond the safety of the manufacturing operator, but into the products and their intended use.  These industries included aviation, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and food packaging.  John has been responsible for overseeing operations that functioned under Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls (FDA), and Manufacturing Best Practices for FAA regulated operations.  John also holds a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt with a focus in continuous improvement and reducing product quality defects to parts per million that directly impact the safe use of the product in the field.
