Topic: Anatomy of a Pandemic

Anatomy of a Pandemic Larry will discuss the NC Division of Public Health’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, along with some historical perspective. How was guidance developed, how are complaints handled, what are the current metrics, and what’s next? All of these questions will be answered, with an emphasis on environmental health’s role in public health’s response to COVID-19.

Speaker: Larry Michael, State Environmental Health Director/Section Chief

Larry is the State Environmental Health Director and Chief of the State Division of Public Health’s Environmental Health Section. Prior to that, he served as the Food Protection and Facilities Branch Head and has held several positions within the Division since joining the State in 1999. He has also been appointed to the State Board of Environmental Health Specialist Examiners, Local Health Department Accreditation Board, and the Governor’s Food Safety and Defense Task Force. Larry’s public health career began at the local level where he was employed as an Environmental Health Specialist in Lee County. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from East Carolina University and a Master of Public Health from the University of NC at Chapel Hill.
