Speaker: John Archer, MS, CIH – Research Industrial Hygienist at US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

John is a research industrial hygienist for the EPA’s Office of Research and Development – National Homeland Security Research Center (NSHRC). His main job is to conduct and manage research for the Decontamination and Consequence Management Division (DCMD). The DCMD research provides science and technology to effectively respond to and recover from intentional or accidental environmental disasters. The DCMD develops the technical and scientific tools and information to assist response groups such as EPA’s Special Teams, On-Scene-Coordinators, and state/local environmental agencies in times of crisis. John’s current research focuses on resuspension/reaerosolization of biological particles from indoor/outdoor surfaces, bioaerosol sampling and measurement, human exposure assessment to chemical/biological agents, and personal protective equipment decontamination. He also manages the Aerosol Test Facility which houses one of only a few large closed-loop aerosol wind tunnel research facilities in the nation. Other duties include serving as the NHSRC safety and facility representatives.
